How to install Remi repository to update PHP & MySQL on CentOS 6.x

Posted by: Norman J. Cimerol on July 7, 2013

So, you installed PHP or MySQL using yum, now you are stuck with old/outdated versions. At the time of this writing, yum will only update to PHP 5.3.3 and MySQL 5.1. Using the Remi repository, you can update to PHP 5.4.17 and MySQL 5.5.32 (current versions as of this writing). Follow the instructions below via SSH to set Remi priority to obtain the latest software. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email.

  1. wget
  2. sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-6*.rpm epel-release-6*.rpm
  3. sudo vi /etc/yum.repos.d/remi.repo

Under the [remi] section, add the line: priority=1 AND set: enabled to 1 like below, then save.

  1. [remi]
name=Les RPM de remi pour Enterprise Linux $releasever - $basearch
  2. yum update
